Dedicated Private Cloud - Proxmox
Simple, secure and scalable cloud hosting on dedicated hardware
Proxmox is an open-source virtualisation solution that combines a KVM hypervisor, Linux containers (LXC) and software-defined storage and network functions on a single platform.
The integrated Proxmox management interface makes it easier to manage virtualisation environments, with practical features such as a web-based CLI and a "REST-like" API. It also allows live migration of systems without downtime.
With dedicated Proxmox servers, companies get virtualisation set up for their needs without shared resources, high performance from fast SSD storage and the option to scale in real time.
In short:
- Easy to handle
- Multi-site capable
- Cost-effective entry
- The relevant core functions of virtualisation platforms

Why Proxmox VE at kyberio
Security
For us, the security of your cloud comes first. DDoS protection is included for all customer systems, plus a 24/7 on-call service. You will find more on this in our security concept.
Data centres
We run several data centres and independent availability zones. This is how we also meet strict legal and regulatory requirements, including certification to ISO 27001 based on BSI IT-Grundschutz.
Service
Experienced specialists with in-depth knowledge of the technologies used look after and run your cloud. They take care of the systems around the clock and on site. How quickly we intervene and through which escalation stages is set out in your contract — a time we have not committed to is not a time we state here.
Proxmox VE Single Node
The Proxmox Single Node is an affordable entry into a dedicated private cloud environment. The HPE ProLiant hardware with Intel processors, ECC RAM and RAID1 provides stable performance and protects data even if a disk fails.
Installation, configuration, updates, monitoring, backups and a 24/7 on-call service are already included — your team can start straight away, without its own admin effort. DDoS protection is included; security options such as an OPNsense firewall add to the platform where needed.
For companies looking for sovereignly run infrastructure in Germany, the single node is a good starting point: flexibly expandable, professionally run and economical.

Proxmox VE Cluster
kyberio's Proxmox cluster solutions provide a scalable, sovereignly run private cloud — from the affordable entry level (S) to the powerful enterprise variant (XL). All stages are based on three HPE ProLiant servers in an N+1 architecture, combined with Intel processors, ECC RAM and a stable RAID1 system.
In all sizes the Ceph storage is replicated three times and uses fast enterprise SSDs. The S configuration delivers solid performance for typical workloads, while XL, with faster CPUs and higher SSD throughput, is designed for demanding, I/O-intensive scenarios.
Every variant is fully managed: installation, updates, monitoring, backups and a 24/7 on-call service are included. DDoS protection is included; a managed OPNsense firewall is also available as a security module. The result is highly available, flexibly expandable and economical infrastructure for different performance requirements.

Proxmox VE HA Cluster
The Proxmox HA cluster takes the cluster architecture to a higher level of availability. Instead of a classic three-node cluster at one site, the platform is run across two fully separate availability zones. Four host systems work in N+N redundancy, so that even the complete failure of an entire availability zone is absorbed. The HA cluster therefore offers a failover level that goes well beyond the N+1 architecture.
Another key difference is the extended data replication: the Ceph storage keeps four copies across both sites — an additional gain in safety over the threefold replication in the standard cluster. This is complemented by an independent tiebreaker instance that prevents split-brain scenarios, and a fully automated failover mechanism without manual intervention.
A dedicated HA Connect link between the sites (up to 1 Gbit/s) ensures low-latency cluster communication across sites. Combined with comprehensively managed operation — monitoring, backups, 24/7 on-call service, included DDoS protection and security options such as a highly available firewall — the result is a platform that meets high business continuity requirements. This makes the HA cluster the right choice for companies that run critical workloads and want to go beyond classic single-site clusters in fault tolerance, data security and degree of automation.

Proxmox VE Cluster: Ceph and HA
In the Proxmox VE Cluster, three servers work together. Storage is provided by Ceph: the data is replicated three times across the nodes. The cluster is designed for N+1, so the failure of one server is planned for.
The HA cluster goes one step further. Four servers are spread across two separate availability zones in Hanover, and Ceph keeps four copies across both zones. If an entire zone fails, Proxmox HA automatically restarts the affected machines in the other one. An independent tiebreaker instance prevents split-brain.
- Cluster: three servers, N+1, Ceph replicated three times
- HA cluster: four servers, N+N, two availability zones
- Ceph four times across both zones
- Failover without manual intervention
Locations
We run your highly available, geo-redundant private cloud infrastructure in four data centres at three sites:
- Hanover: Am Eisenwerk (cloud, colocation)
- Hanover: Am Mittelfelde (cloud, colocation)
- Wolfsburg: near the Autostadt (cloud)
- Frankfurt (cloud, point of presence)
Compute
Our Proxmox-based cloud systems provide compute resources for virtual machines and containers. Live migration moves running workloads without downtime — useful for maintenance and high availability. Resources such as CPU, RAM and storage can be allocated flexibly, so systems scale dynamically and run stably.
Storage
The storage model is flexible: VM images can be stored locally, distributed across several disks or on shared storage such as NFS and SAN. Capacity and performance adapt precisely to the need — from smaller environments to large clusters.
Software Defined Network
With SDN, Proxmox manages advanced network scenarios — from isolated private networks to complex overlay architectures across several clusters and sites. Multi-client setups, multi-tenant networks and hybrid architectures can be mapped cleanly and securely.
Management
The intuitive web interface allows the entire cluster to be managed without additional tools. Backups, live migrations, HA functions and monitoring can be controlled directly from the GUI. For experienced users, the CLI with auto-completion allows efficient work, and the REST-like API makes it easy to integrate external systems.
Clustering
Proxmox can be extended with further nodes at any time. The HA cluster uses proven Linux HA technologies and provides high stability and automatic failover. The complete HA configuration is done conveniently via the web interface.
Backup & Snapshot
With native, efficient backups and fast snapshots, Proxmox provides strong data protection directly from the platform. Combined with the Proxmox Backup Server, incremental backups, deduplication and fast restores are possible.

Frequently asked questions about the private cloud
What does a private cloud with Proxmox VE cost?
The single node starts at €773.00 net per month, the cluster of three servers at €2,106.00 net and the HA cluster of four servers across two availability zones at €3,606.00 net. All stages include installation, updates, monitoring, backups, a 24/7 on-call service and DDoS protection. Traffic is included under a fair-use policy. The minimum term is twelve months.
What is the difference between the node sizes S, M, L and XL?
Core count and clock speed. S has 24 cores at 2.30 GHz, M 32 cores at 2.60 GHz, L 48 cores at 2.70 GHz. XL goes the other way: only 24 cores, but at 3.30 GHz — useful for software licensed per core or dependent on clock speed. You configure memory and SSD capacity independently of this.
How does the HA cluster differ from the cluster?
The cluster runs with three servers in an N+1 architecture at one site and replicates the Ceph storage three times. The HA cluster spreads four servers in an N+N architecture across two fully separate availability zones, keeps four copies of the data across both zones, has an independent tiebreaker instance against split-brain situations and fails over without manual intervention.
How does Proxmox VE differ from VMware?
Proxmox VE is open source; there are no licence costs for the platform. It combines the KVM hypervisor, Linux containers, software-defined storage and networking in one interface. Functions you know from VMware have an equivalent: live migration instead of vMotion, HA cluster instead of vSphere HA, Ceph instead of vSAN, web interface and API instead of vCenter. The switch is described on the VMware alternatives and migration page.
Does the private cloud run in Germany?
Yes. The systems are located in our data centres in Hanover, Wolfsburg and Frankfurt, certified to ISO 27001 based on BSI IT-Grundschutz (BSI-IGZ-0552-2023). kyberio is subject to German law and not to the CLOUD Act.
What does kyberio take on, and what stays with me?
We install and configure the platform, apply updates, monitor operation, back up the systems and provide a 24/7 on-call service. Your virtual machines, containers and data stay with you.
